AECC opened its doors to delegates in 1985, primarily to host the biennial
Offshore Europe Exhibition and Conferences. Over the course of its history,
there has been a considerable growth in both the number and size of events,
ranging from international congresses, large-scale music concerts, trade
shows and public exhibitions, award ceremonies, live sporting events to
small corporate meetings.
Following an £18 million refurbishment and expansion programme, The
Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre officially reopened in April 2003
by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal. This world-class, state of the
art exhibition centre has increased capacity, accommodating 2000 delegates
in the recently refurbished Boyd Orr Hall and in the existing auditorium
from 300 to 440 delegates. As part of the extension plan, the AECC boasts
two new 565m2 suites and an additional twenty break-out rooms offering flexible
meeting venues for conference syndicate sessions or roundtable discussions.
The AECC is home to a team of professional and customer focused experts
who are on hand for the smooth running and organisation of each individual
event and are pleased to allocate a dedicated event management team who
are responsible for coordinating every event, exhibition and concert held
in one of the leading exhibition and conference centres in Scotland. The
Centre also provides its own in-house Professional Conference Organising
Team which offer a range of services tailored for the organisation and running
of conferences.
Over the years, the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre has staged
a plethora of some of the world’s foremost sporting events including
the WWE wrestling, snooker championships and Thai boxing finals. Large sporting
events such as the WWE are usually held in the Press and Journal Arena that
hosts backstage areas and adequate seating to accommodate larger audiences.
On the other hand, the Boyd Orr Hall usually hosts smaller events such as
the snooker championships, having the flexibility to provide extra seating
if required. The AECC is also Aberdeen’s foremost venue for showcasing
some of the world’s leading rock/pop groups and solo artists who perform
at the Centre throughout the year.
The Centre’s facilities are second to none and cater for everyone
visiting the venue for conferences, concerts, trade shows and exhibitions.
The café located in the main entrance of AECC serves sandwiches,
baked potatoes, soups and Paninis as well as an assortment of refreshments
and confectionery to tantalise those taste buds. The Aberdeen Exhibition
and Conference Centre (AECC) is distinguished from many other venues of
its kind as all catering is conducted in-house and on-site. The Centre can
cater for a wide range of events, including business breakfasts and lunches,
buffets for large and small meetings and exquisite menus for prestigious
award ceremonies and dinner dances. Internet facilities are available within
the AECC and can be accessed with state-of-the art Wireless Broadband connection
via FreeLAN. Whether you are visiting for business or pleasure, a variety
of Internet access packages can be purchased from the AECC reception.
Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) is fully accessible for
disabled patrons featuring full accessibility for wheelchair users, elevators
with braille buttons and a permanent induction loop in the Forbes Room designed
for people with hearing difficulties. Disabled toilet facilities are provided
throughout the Exhibition and Conference Centre and disabled parking bays
are situated at the front of the main entrance and adjacent to the West
entrance to the arena. Should you require any assistance, staff are on hand
to assist you during your visit to the AECC.
