The Granite City of Aberdeen is developing a strong reputation as one of the UK's leading musical festival cities thanks to its wealth of diverse talent in and around this North East of Scotland city. A fairly recent addition to the annual Aberdeen Festivals Scene is the Aberdeen Jazz Festival which was established in March 2004 by the Aberdeen Jazz Group.

Previously multi-talented musicians and emerging new talent have appeared, including Jaqui Dankworth, London-based jazz sensations, Polar Bear with Aberdeen-born drummer Sebastian Rochford acclaimed for their Rising Star Award in the 2004 BBC Jazz Awards.

For a larger affair, The Aberdeen Jazz Festival has welcomed the sensational Scottish National Jazz Orchestra who play annually at the prestigious Edinburgh International Jazz & Blues Festival and the Glasgow International Jazz Festival. Expect more appearances from Scotland's leading Jazz Orchestra with an effervescent line up of old Jazz Classics, Blues, R&B and Swing to get those feet stomping.

Since its inception, The Aberdeen Jazz Festival hosts around 30 performances over a few days. The festival's eclectic programme of Jazz, R&B, Blues, Contemporary Jazz, Jazz Fusion and Traditional Swing can be viewed at a few venues across the city including the Aberdeen Music Hall, The Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre and the renowned Lemon Tree Café.

Festival organisers engage local talents and orchestras in the city's annual Jazz Festival, having provided a platform for Aberdeen's own Jazz Orchestra during the festival's inauguration. Local Schools are known to provide lunch time concerts throughout the duration of the festival and primary and secondary school children have been taught Jazz instrumental skills.

The 2007 festival will be showcasing International stars including the expert guitar performer, Martin Taylor who will be appearing with jazz singer Alison Burns, An insight of what musician and bands are expected can be gained from Jazz Aberdeen's official web site.

Why not sample The Aberdeen Jazz Festival in March and get a flavour of the city's vibrant Jazz Scene and cosmopolitan ambience at this festival. For more information, please contact Jazz Aberdeen on the telephone number above.
