Bedlam Theatre
Address: 11 Bristo Place, Edinburgh, EH1 1EZ
Tel: 0131 225 9893
The Bedlam Theatre is a familiar and prominent landmark that is clearly
visible from The Royal Mile in Edinburgh's Old Town. Housed in an imposing
former neo-gothic church dating from 1864, the building has a colourful
history and is allegedly located near the former site of Edinburgh's first
lunatic asylum - hence the name of this distinctive theatre.
This fully operational theatre has a 92 capacity and is home to Edinburgh
University Theatre Company (E.U.T.C). Bedlam is proud of its unique status
as the only student-run theatre in the UK and plays hosts to a staggering
90 performances during an academic year.
The University Theatre Company has organised tours to Europe, America and
Russia and are proud to house their own festival of new material - FebFest.
They have been well received by the press and were awarded the 'Fringe First
Award' by the Scotsman.
The auditorium has undergone various refurbishment phases and new seating
was installed in 2001 to maximise comfort in this small intimate theatre.
The Bedlam Theatre provides patrons with refreshments, soft drinks and snacks
to patrons in the theatre café prior to performances and during intervals.
The café features a collective of photographs pertinent to the venue
and theatre company and publicity material.
The Bedlam Theatre can be hired out for various purposes on a hire fee basis.
This operation is only available for limited periods in the year and includes
the Fringe Season.
For more information on future events and performances at the Bedlam Theatre
this winter, please consult the list below or contact the theatre directly.
