Tel: 0131 225 2290

The Loch Ness Visitor Centre in the cultural heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town invites visitors to uncover the truth behind Loch Ness and it’s world famous mythical creature, Nessie through an intriguing collection of displays and presentations devised by erudite Loch Ness enthusiast and expert Adrian Shine, the designer of the award-winning Loch Ness 2000 Visitor Centre in Drumnadrochit.

Visitors have the opportunity to explore the veritable natural environment of Scotland’s world famous loch and examine the legend behind the elusive ‘Loch Ness Monster’ through a series of series of photographs, recorded facts and figures and a vivid account of the loch’s natural history and ecology. The discovery centre also presents over 1,000 eyewitness accounts of the legendary creature lurking in the tumultuous depths of this mile deep loch, the deepest in the country.

At the heart of the visitor experience is the 3D virtual tour of Loch Ness, narrated by Loch Ness’s foremost natural historian, Adrian Shrine and running for 20 minutes, a reasonable time-scale for children enjoy and absorb. The visitor centre is equally accessible to non-English speakers with narrations in four foreign languages, namely French, German, Italian and Spanish.

Visitors can also learn about Adrian Shrine’s landmark expeditions and discoveries as he unveils what could be below the surface of Loch Ness, having thoroughly researched the area for many decades using state-of-the-art technology and devices in the quest of finding the loch’s mythical legend.

Situated on Old Parliament Square next to St Giles Cathedral, The Loch Ness Discovery Centre is Edinburgh’s newest visitor attraction and opened its doors to the public in 2005. As an integral part of the experience, visitors have the option to embark on a tour of the subterranean vaults below the building and Edinburgh’s City Chambers, previously out of bounds for centuries.

Why not discover the stories and findings related to Scotland's mythical icon at Edinburgh's most intriguing attractions of international importance which will perhaps entice you to an excursion to the world famous loch and sister visitor centre at Drumnadrochit nestling on the banks of Loch Ness. A quality selection of memorabilia and merchandise are on sale at the shop as a memento to your experience at Edinburgh's newest cultural attraction.
