The People's Story

The museum tells us about the lives and times of Edinburgh people through the ages to the present day, where they worked, how they played and everything in between dating back to the 18th century.

We are presented this intriguing story through written and oral presentation, detailing what life was like back then. The museum has many unique displays including a prison cell, pub and tearoom, a servant at work and shows how a 1940's kitchen may have looked.

The extremely detailed reconstruction is greatly complemented by the extensive photographic collection, artefacts and objects. On entrance there is a short video to compliment the museum contents.

The Peoples Story museum is opened Monday-Saturday throughout the year and during August is also open on a Sunday. There is no entrance fee and the museum is very easy to access as it is set on the Royal Mile which is one the main, and oldest, streets in Edinburgh.

For any visitors to Edinburgh this is a fascinating day out, giving a glimpse into not only Edinburgh's, but also Scotland's history. You will also find some interesting pieces in the shop including a wide rang of books and many appealing gifts.
