The Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh is home to some of the best contemporary
art in Scotland. The Academy is located on The Mound at the very heart
of Edinburgh; it was re-opened by Prince Charles in 2003 after refurbishment.
The building itself has been situated on the Royal Mile since 1826 when
the architect William Henry Playfair designed the magnificent venue. Playfair
had a unique style with hints of Greek influence he was meticulous when
it came to the design process and was a perfectionist.
The Royal Scottish Academy is an independent institution, keen to development
and nurture Scotland's young artists and architects with continuing support
and education on offer.
The academy is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and has over
1400 square metres of exhibition space, the gallery is definitely a great
experience, and this world-class venue receives many visitors each year.
There is also a unique link which goes underground and connects The Scottish
Academy Building to the equally impressive National Gallery of Scotland
this award-winning design gives people the chance to visit both attractions
in one day.
The link features enhances visitor services as well as a restaurant where
you can take in the stunning views of Princes Street Gardens, there is
also a café and gift shop on site.
