Established in 1965, Theatre Workshop is Edinburgh's premier arts and
drama centre for children. The Theatre's objectives are to share and provide
social, political and cultural insights, enabling individuals to develop
and change themselves and the world in which they live.
In August 2000, the theatre is proud to become the first producing theatre
in Europe to include disabled actors in its productions. Theatre Workshop
is equally renowned for its excellence through its education and outreach
programmes and all aspects of their performances.
The theatre operates out of a 155-seat venue and is situated within Edinburgh
City Centre. The work is produced at the venue allowing actors, musicians
and designers a fuller role in the stage production process.
This professional theatre company is inclusive, meaning that it includes
actors with disabilities who receive contracts on an annual basis. Theatre
Workshop also has close associations with the voluntary sector who have
specialist knowledge of minority groups.
The role of Theatre Workshop is to present a voice by exploring conflict
and promoting diversity and difference. The theatre company aims to create
a rich plethora of poignant, beautiful, accessible and honest theatre
productions.
