Hutchesons Hall
Address: 158 Ingram Street, Glasgow, G1 1EJ.
Tel: 0141 552 8391
Two Glasgow lawyers who left funds in trust to build a school for poor boys,
orphans and also old men formed Hutcheson's Hall. Originally built on the
Trongate in Glasgow the new building was built on Ingram Street by David
Hamilton in 1805. The new building actually contains a sculpture of the
two lawyers that was taken from the old building on the Trongate.
Hutchison's Hall eventually gave way to Hutchison's Grammar school, which
continues, to this day as a fee-paying school.
Inside the Hall itself you will find a very grand staircase that leads to
the main hall. You will be swept away by the magnificence of the place as
you sense the history while taking the tour through this lovely Glasgow
landmark.
Hutchison's Hall now holds regular exhibitions, which may incur a charge
for entry although entry to the Hall itself is free. Hutchison's Hall is
also available for functions.
Downstairs at Hutchison's Hall you will find a small shop, selling everything
from jewellery, textiles and ceramics as well as work from young designers.
There are toilet facilities available as well as access for wheelchairs.
You will find Hutchison's Hall on Ingram Street in the centre of Glasgow.
Within walking distance from all of the main shopping streets why not take
time out to view some of Glasgow's great architecture and go on a historical
journey that you are sure to find interesting.
