About Balloch
Balloch is divided by the River Leven which exits the South part of Loch
Lomond and after a few miles joins the River Clyde at Dumbarton. Loch Lomond
can be enjoyed from cruises and private charters that run from Balloch Pier.
There is also a 200 acre country park to the west of the River Leven, home
to Balloch Castle with pathways that will lead you overlooking Loch Lomond.
The Castle has a tourist information office and a small café. The
Balloch Castle gardens are open throughout the year and there is also a
visitor centre for tourists.Balloch has neatly placed itself on the tourist map with the opening of a new development, The National Park Gateway Centre at Lomond shores which includes a shopping complex, visitor centre, Imax cinema, cafes, bars, restaurants and ample car parking facilities. Outwith the complex there is a viewing platform at the Lochside, picnic benches and signposted nature trails.
There are a number of hotels, guest houses and nearby camping facilities in and around Balloch. There is a tourist information office and many leisure and recreational facilities. In mid July every year locals and tourists enjoy the Loch Lomond Highland Games. At the end of July there is the Loch Lomond Folk Festival. In September there is the Get Active Outdoor Festival on the Lomond Shores and In October there is the Loch Lomond Music Festival, also on the Lomond Shores at Balloch.
Balloch is very accessible by public transport and also has a cycle path at the riverside. There are train connections to Glasgow, only 25 miles away, including Helensburgh and the West Highland Line. The bus serves links to most neighbouring areas including Glasgow.
