About Fort William
A beautiful place to visit, with Ben Nevis, the UK's highest mountain; looming
over the town the views are quite unique. On the High Street you will find
many shops to peruse, bars and eateries and café's if you are looking for
a rest. The town also marks the end of the West Highland Way; one of the
oldest and longest walks in Scotland and marks the beginning of the Great
Glen Way, running for 73 miles! Fort William offers a wide range of activities
for you to try out.
Fort William is also home to Aonach Moor, the base for the ski resort in
Fort William. During the winter season, you are offered here the highest
skiing in Scotland, as well as snowboarding, with all the equipment available
for higher. When the snow has cleared there are various events running,
you can take a gondola trip half way up and attempt the walk back down,
this is quite difficult and probably best for experienced walkers.
The gondola's, the only in Scotland, running constantly, weather permitting,
and those who are experienced in mountain biking will perhaps be interested
in cycling down the purpose built track, this is extremely difficult but
offers great views and a one off experience. Just an hour from Fort William
you will find the quaint town of Mallaig, there are various ferries running
from here to a few of the small island's dotted around if you perhaps are
interested in investigating a little further. There are also many tourist
attractions, including the Mallaig marine centre, Mallaig Heritage Centre
and much more.
