About Killin

Steeped in Celtic myth and legend, the picture postcard village of Killin in the Breadablane region of the Southern Highlands is a breathtaking beauty spot renowned for cascading Falls of Dochart, inarguably one of Scotland's most photogenic natutal features. This small-sized settlement is an important tourist centre and is a popular for romantic escapes and weddings, with visitors travelling far and wide to experience the unspoiled natural beauty that Killin and Breadablane has to offer.

Situated near the Falls in the Breadablane Folk Centre are the 1300 year old healing stones of St Filan, representing 8 parts of the human body and according to legend, they are said to have medicinal properties in healing ailments of the body part that they represent by simply touching them. Adding to the town's Celtic tradition, The Killin Folk Music Festival in June is certainly worth a visit, scheduling an enchanting programme of impromptu jam sessions and live folk groups on stage playing anything from Scottish and Irish folk to bluegrass. The festival is staged at village pubs, hotels and the village hall and attracts music aficionados and musicians from across the UK.

Arguably the biggest attraction to Killin is its stunning location surrounded by some of Perthshire's finest mountainous landscapes and nestling at the head of Loch Tay, Scotland's premier spot for salmon fishing. Ben Lawers is the most predominant natural feature looming majestically above this attractive village at a staggering 3983 ft. Visitors can discover an intriguing account of region's natural history at Ben Lawers Visitors Centre.
